Department of Biological Sciences, NMIMS Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS) organized a two-day event "OPEN DAY” from 2nd & 3rd December 2019 to provide an opportunity for students, currently studying in final year graduation to visit SDSOS, to learn, experience and explore techniques used in biological research.
The Open Day received an overwhelming response with more than 370+ students (along with few faculties) participated from various colleges like Jhunjhunwala College, Elphinstone College, S.I.W.S. College, Sathaye College, Ruia College, Mithibai College, Wilson College, C.H.M. College, Royal College, Bhavan’s College, Thakur College, Jaihind College, K.C. College, KJ Somaiya College, V.E.S. College, Patkar College, and Khalsa College. Students were from various subject streams like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Zoology, and Life Sciences.
The event was spread over four sessions, two on each day, and it started with a welcome and introductory speech by the Internal Faculty of SDSOS. During the event, students of Ph. D. and M. Sc. Biological Sciences, SDSOS conducted hands-on demonstrations and showcased some of the interesting and innovative research taking place across the school. Each demonstration was of 10-25 minutes and it highlighted the technology used in research in respective areas. Some of the active research areas at SDSOS include Microbiology & Biotechnology, Stem cell research, Cancer research, Medicinal plant research, and Nanotechnology. Students from various colleges got an opportunity to walk in through our various laboratories that include Animal Tissue culture, Physiology, Molecular Biology, PCR, Microbiology lab, Instrumentation, and Analytical Chemistry laboratories. Excellent feedback was received from the students and faculties who attended the event.
