HANDS-ON TRAINING ON ELECTROCHEMICAL TECHNIQUES – SYNTHESIS AND APPLICATIONS IN ENERGY STORAGE

Department of Chemistry, Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS), SVKM’s NMIMS (Deemed-to-be) University, Mumbai organized a three-day workshop titled "Hands-on Training on Electrochemical Techniques: Synthesis and Applications in Energy Storage from 9th to 11th January 2025. This workshop was designed to provide participants with a holistic understanding of electrochemical techniques, their applications in energy storage, and the opportunity to engage in practical experiments. With the growing demand for energy-efficient systems, this workshop aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, focusing on advanced electrochemical techniques that are essential in modern scientific research and industrial applications.

Participants:

Total 22 participants registered for the workshop. The participants included faculty, research scholars and students from in and around Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Pune.

 

Workshop Highlights:

  1. Introduction of fundamental concepts of electrochemistry.
  2. Explore synthesis techniques and their applications in energy storage systems.
  3. Provide hands-on training for practical understanding of electrochemical processes, electrode fabrications, electrochemical evaluation and device fabrication.
  4. Create a platform for knowledge sharing and networking among students, researchers, and industry professionals

Outcome:

  1. Talk on ‘Basics, Techniques and Applications on Electrochemistry’. Provided participants information centred on Electrochemical Research and Industrial Perspectives with further emphasizing the application of electrochemical methods in industrial energy storage solutions providing insights into material testing.
  2. Talk on ‘Electrochemistry: why bother?’ unpacked the complexities of electrochemistry and showcase its profound impact on real-world applications.
  3. Talk on ‘Concepts of Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Conservation, and Storage’ enabled participants to break down complex concepts and deepen the understanding of electrochemistry in addressing global energy challenges and promoting sustainability.
  4. Talk on ‘Fundamentals and Applications of Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies.’ bridged the gap between theory and practical applications.
  5. Participants explored the basics of electrode preparation, were introduced to the Electrochemical workstation and were demonstrated the practical assembly of the two and three electrodes along with hands-on training for electrode fabrication using different substrates and methods. They also came across electrochemical synthesis, electrochemical testing, and data analysis, software handling and plotting.

Conclusion:

The "Hands-on Training on Electrochemical Techniques: Synthesis and Applications in Energy Storage” workshop successfully achieved its objectives by providing participants with in-depth knowledge of electrochemical concepts, advanced techniques, and practical applications. It not only enhanced the participants' understanding of energy storage technologies but also fostered a collaborative environment for future research and innovation.  The Department of Chemistry, SDSOS, NMIMS, looks forward to organizing more such events to promote knowledge-sharing and skill development in cutting-edge scientific domains.
