Overview:

Dr. Darshna Potphode and her research team at the Department of Chemistry, Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS), SVKM’s NMIMS (Deemed-to-be) University, Mumbai successfully organized a workshop on ‘ELECTROHANDS: Dive into Electrochemical Techniques’ on 4th and 5th July, 2025 from 10.00 AM to 5.00 PM. This workshop provided an intensive and interactive platform for participants to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of and electrochemical energy systems, advanced energy storage, and electrocatalysis. The workshop covered core topics from fundamentals to in-depth exploration through a blend of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on lab sessions. It exposed participants to advanced materials and techniques used in modern electrochemical research. The workshop successfully fostered technical competence and encouraged innovation among students, researchers and faculty members interested in exploring in the domain of clean energy.

Participation:

A total of 16 participants registered for the workshop. The participants included students, Ph.D. research scholars and faculty members from several colleges in and around Mumbai, including:

  • University of Mumbai
  • G. Vaze College
  • Mukesh Patel School of Technology
  • The Institute of Science
  • Sophia College for Women

Participants showed enthusiastic involvement and active engagement throughout the workshop. They received a well-structured blend of conceptual knowledge and practical experience, which helped them build confidence in handling instruments and analyzing experimental data effectively.

Workshop Highlights:

  1. Comprehensive coverage of electrochemistry from basic principles to advanced techniques.
  2. Interactive lectures delivered by expert in the field
  3. Hands-on training sessions on key electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge discharge, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
  4. Practical exposure to electrode fabrication techniques and data interpretation enhancing participants’ experimental interpretation skills.
  5. Participant engagement through Q&A sessions and collaborative discussions on recent research on energy storage.
  6. Positive feedback and active participation indicating the success and impact of the workshop

Outcome:

The outcome of the workshop was highly positive, with participants gaining enhanced theoretical understanding and practical proficiency in electrochemical techniques. The hands-on sessions significantly boosted their confidence in operating the instrument, performing experiments, and analyzing the data critically. Many participants expressed that the workshop bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world laboratory practices. The interactive format fostered curiosity, collaboration, and deeper learning, encouraging participants to explore research opportunities in energy storage, electrocatalysis and sustainable technologies. Overall, the workshop successfully empowered attendees with skills and insights essential for pursuing academic and industrial research in the electrochemical domain.

Conclusion:

The workshop proved to be a valuable platform for bridging theoretical concepts with practical applications in the field of electrochemical energy systems. Through a well-balanced combination of lectures and hands-on training, participants were equipped with essential skills and a deeper understanding of modern electrochemical techniques. The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback reflected the workshop’s effectiveness in fostering scientific curiosity, technical competence, and interest in sustainable energy research. The Department of Chemistry, SDSOS, NMIMS, looks forward to organizing more such events to promote knowledge-sharing and skill development in cutting-edge scientific domains.
