Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS), SVKM’s NMIMS (Deemed-to-be) University, Mumbai, organized a two-day Hands-on Training Workshop on "Application of BIOVIA Tool in Molecular Modeling” on 8th and 9th May 2025, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in computational molecular modeling using the BIOVIA software suite, an advanced platform widely used in drug discovery and molecular research.
The training was conducted by Dr. Ashish Kanhed, Solution Consultant - BIOVIA (Application Scientist), a renowned expert in the field of computational modeling and bioinformatics.
Participants
A total of 35 participants registered for the workshop. The participants included students, research scholars, and faculty members from:
The diversity of participants fostered interdisciplinary learning and collaboration across different schools of NMIMS.
Workshop Highlights:
The workshop offered a blend of theoretical understanding and hands-on sessions on various applications of molecular modeling using the BIOVIA software suite. The key topics covered were:
Sequence Alignment - Basics of sequence comparison, alignment tools, and interpretation of results.
Protein Modeling - Homology modeling, structure prediction, and model validation.
Molecular Docking - Fundamentals of ligand-protein docking, setting up docking runs, and analysing binding interactions.
Molecular Dynamics Simulation - Introduction to simulation techniques, running simulations, and analyzing trajectories for structural stability.
Each session was designed to provide practical exposure, with participants working directly on the software under the guidance of Dr. Kanhed.
Outcome: The training enabled participants to:
The workshop received positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the interactive approach, practical demonstrations, and the opportunity to engage directly with the software tools.
Conclusion:
The Hands-on Training Workshop on "Application of BIOVIA Tool in Molecular Modeling” successfully introduced participants to the computational techniques essential for modern molecular biosciences research. The initiative aligned with NMIMS's vision of fostering skill development and research-oriented learning. The organizers extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ashish Kanhed for his insightful training and to all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
