SCHOOL OF SCIENCE ORGANIZES A "TWO-DAY WORKSHOP ON ANALYTICAL NANOSCIENCE" FOR CHEMISTS

School of Science organized a two-day workshop on Analytical Nanoscience for Chemist" on 21st-22nd November 2014. The workshop included lectures on different aspects of nano-science and provided hands-on training in synthesis of different types of nano-materials and their characterization techniques.

The workshop began with the inaugural lecture by Prof. D. Bahadur, Chair professor, IIT Bombay on "Surface engineered oxide nanomaterials for water purification".

Lectures also included :

  1. Drug delivery by nanomaterials by Dr. Mangal Nagarsenker, Professor, Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai.
  2. Characterization of nanomaterials by Dr. K. C. Barick, Scientific Officer D, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
  3. Particle characterization by Zeta potential by Mr. Deepak Munnar, Aimil Ltd, Mumbai.
  4. Nanobiosensing by Dr. Sudeshna Chandra, School of Science, NMIMS University, Mumbai.

There was an overwhelming response from the scientific arena particularly from researchers and students working in the area of nanoscience, however, the number of participants were restricted to 25.  Participants included faculties, post-graduates and doctoral students from various institutes namely, Bombay College of Pharmacy, SNPH College, UICT Jalgaon, Ismail Yusuf College Mumbai, Central University of Gujarat, Junagadh Agricultural University, to name a few.

Demonstration sessions of the first day included synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles, silver nanorods, selenium and zinc oxide nanomaterials. The second day demonstration was on characterization techniques

The workshop was well coordinated by our student coordinators: Mr. Vaibhav Jadhav, Mayuri Pillai, Delina Joseph, Nirmla Thakur, Sonam Malhotra and Shahin Pathan.
