The NMIMS (Deemed to be University) is introducing the M.Sc. Applied Psychology programme from August 2021. The salient feature of this programme is the emphasis being laid on the overall development of student with major focus on application and filed work. The course manly focusesto provide students an in-depth insight in clinical psychology to facilitate them to become good professionals to understand and assist in dealing with mental health problems of people in the community. Apart from theoretical understanding, they will be in a position to conduct research on human problems. Practical paper based upon various clinical assessments will enrich the students in deeper understanding of clinical phenomena. Students will also be aware and appreciate the manner in which individual differences are manifested in various kinds of psychopathology. They will also have adequate orientation to the subject in various professional set ups. On the whole, the course will help to develop good professional and ethical knowledge on the subject. This course is designed with an objective of preparing students with strong fundamental knowledge of the subject so that they can prepare to become good professionals.

The M.Sc. (Applied Psychology) designed to provide students with a general awareness of the problems of applying psychology, a knowledge of skills required to apply it effectively and a detailed understanding of their chosen focus of application. The concepts of analysis, intervention and evaluation are central to the structure and philosophy of this program. The core modules provide training in research methods and professional issues. The subjects provided in the curriculum further development of these competencies and knowledge while enabling students to consider their application in specified content areas through the study of applied modules and an extended piece of empirical research.

The course provides a preparatory training for those intending to apply for other more specialised postgraduate professional courses or doctorate course in psychology and for those intending to pursue a career in which psychological expertise of a high level is necessary or beneficial.

This course is aimed at graduates who have previously studied psychology and want the opportunity to further their knowledge to an advanced level, as well as the chance to develop an understanding of how psychology is applied to a particular aspect of real life.

This course helps students to pursue further M.Phil, Ph.D and Psy.D Degree/courses in Clinical, Applied, Industrial and other disciplines of Psychology.

Student can also start their careers as a Mental Health Care Worker, Allied Health Care professional after finishing their degree.

Areas of applied psychology studied include educational psychology, child psychology, clinical psychology and counselling psychology.

The M.Sc. Applied Psychology is a two years course, which includes four semesters with major focus on advanced specialized knowledge of Psychology, clinical/ industrial scopes and applications practicing and researching in the field.

Eligibility 
Candidates should have secured minimum 50% or equivalent in the bachelor degree in Science i.e. B. Sc. from any recognized university in Science Stream or Engineering or Technology or Medicine or Pharmaceutical Science or in any discipline of Psychology i.e. (B.A. Psychology, B.Sc. Psychology or B. Psy. in Psychology) shall be eligible for Master of Science course.

Pedagogy

Student Centred Learning. Each semester focuses on foundation and in-depth knowledge on a specific subject and area of psychology.Overall major emphasis is given on experiential and activity-based learning than the classroom learning. The course work comprises of lectures and practical and live projects, tutorials throughout the course. Course is reviewed regularly in consultation with our Board of Studies, which comprises of experts from academia, research institutions and industry from all over India. Thus, the course is tailor made to fulfil the requirements needed to keep pace with the current developments in the field of psychology. Faculty also conducts Guest lectures by eminent academicians and scientists, paper presentations (Journal Club/ Psychology Club), etc. to ensure learner centric environment.

Programme In-charge's Message

The Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS) is a newly founded endeavor of the prestigious SVKM’S NMIMS (Deemed to be University), in its efforts to diverge to various disciplines of higher education and learning. The SOS evolved in 2007-2008, with a view to provide undergraduates and post graduates an opportunity to embark on a challenging, yet exciting domain of Pure and Applied Sciences.
